Former members of New Zealand’s rugby team played elephant polo against the defending champions Audemars Piguet in the opening match in Thailand’s Hua Hin. Elephant riders known as mahouts gathered before the match to pay homage to the animals with a holy water blessing for the elephants taking part in the match.
