Brazilian police clamp down on violence in Rio

Around 250 police officers, tanks and helicopters have been called in to stem the growing violence in a slum area of Rio de Janeiro. Over the last three days 12 people have been killed, six of them teenagers. According to media reports the youngsters, who were all students, were beaten and tortured by a drugs gang.
