There have been clashes in the Egyptian capital Cairo between police and activists who tried to storm the Syrian embassy to plant a rebel flag.
Tear gas was used to disperse the protesters. A security source said there were minor injuries on both sides. About five demonstrators were reportedly arrested.
Earlier a crowd had gathered in front of the headquarters of the Arab League, the night before a meeting expected to discuss the Syrian conflict.
Demonstrators then marched the short distance to the Syrian embassy holding aloft pictures of people killed in the violence between President Assad’s troops and armed rebels.
The trouble began as they tried to replace the Syrian national flag with a rebel one.
Syria’s embassy in Cairo has been attacked several times in the past year. There have also been protests outside Syrian embassies in several other countries.
