A car bomb has killed five people and wounded many more in Jaramanah, a pro-Assad district on the outskirts of the Syrian capital. It follows a bomb in the same area last week, which killed at least 12 people.

Elsewhere in the city, amateur video uploaded to the internet shows parts of the Hazza suburb in flames. Opposition sources say the government stormed the area and executed 27 men.

Outside the capital, a blast near Aleppo left more than 20 people dead. Rebels say they are holding half of the city, which is the largest in the country.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed United Nations and Arab League Envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, has said finding a diplomatic solution in Syria is nearly impossible.
