Public anger in Spain over health care cuts

Protests continue at Spanish hospitals as the government pushes forward with a wide-reaching austerity programme.

A measure to ban undocumented immigrants from receiving free health care has met with outrage from hospital workers in several parts of the country.

One microbiologist says he is completely against the measure and explains that his view is shared by workers at almost every hospital. “We are going to do everything possible to make our arguments”, he says.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy says Spain is unable to fund itself at its current cost of borrowing and must make sacrifices. As his party loses popularity in the polls, he continues to push the deepest budget cuts in the nation’s democratic history.
