Barcelona’s puppet master Andres Iniesta won UEFA’s best player in Europe award for last season on Thursday following a glitzy ceremony in Monaco which also included the draw for the Champions League group stage.
Iniesta won the live poll, conducted by journalists from each of UEFA’s 53 member countries, beating last year’s winner and club team mate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Last season Iniesta, considered one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup with his club while he helped Spain retain their European title at Euro 2012, where he was also named player of the tournament.
