Romania reinstates president


The Romanian parliament has upheld a court decision to reinstate the country’s President Traian Basescu.

Basescu was suspended after a political row and Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s leftist alliance tried to have him impeached via a referendum.

The vote proved invalid as less than 50 per cent of the electorate voted.
