Muslim youths in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa have gone on the rampage after unknown gunmen shot dead a radical Islamist cleric.
Protesters attempted to torch two Christian churches and hurled rocks at police. One demonstrator was killed during the disturbances.
Police used tear-gas to disperse the crowds.
Aboud Rogo Mohammed is accused by the UN and US of fundraising and recruiting for Somalia’s al-Shabab militants.
The UN Security Council imposed a travel ban and asset freeze on the cleric for his alleged support of al-Shabab.
Mohammed was shot dead as he drove with his family in Mombasa, his wife was hit in the leg.
Many of the rioters believe the police were behind his death.
