Vestas ‘facing tough year’ to cut more jobs

A chill wind is blowing through part of the alternative energy world with Danish wind turbine maker Vestas saying it will cut 1,400 more jobs.

It is laying off workers to save an additional 100 million euros.

Production problems and delays in delivering projects wiped out its profits last year and led to a shake-up in top management – Vestas said 2013 will be another difficult year.

Vestas had previously announced the workforce would be reduced by 2,335 by the end of the year and said on Wednesday those reductions were ahead of schedule, while the additional cuts were needed “in order to prepare for 2013 which will be even tougher than 2012.”
