Exceptionally hot, dry weather has been making headlines, notably for the effect on grain crops, causing the prices of these commodities to soar. French television France 2 reported on the United States.

The high price of grain can have dramatic results. Swiss television reported on a system that tries to compensate.

Spain has been especially vulnerable to wildfires after its driest winter in 70 years. In the Canary Islands, Gomera burned for 12 days. Spanish television TVE reported on the islanders’ anger.

Several European countries have seen temperature records broken this August. Italians felt it intensely, public television Rai 2 reported.
