Wildfires in at least ten states in the US have destroyed vast tracts of land as firefighters battle to control the infernos.
Together, some 200,000 hectares have been burned in just Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California.
The authorities say the Washington State blaze was started by accident on Monday by workers at a construction site.
More than 70 homes in the area have been burned and around 900 people have had to be evacuated.
In northern California emergency services have spent a third day fighting the flames which have been fuelled by tinder-dry brush, allowing the fires to spread rapidly.
