Buenos Aires hosts world’s biggest tango festival

It is elegant, it is passionate and it is the pride of Argentina – where the world’s biggest tango festival has just got underway.

From beginners to professionals, couples have hit the dance floor in Buenos Aires, which is hosting
the Tango World Championships at the same time.

“I think it is an event that is always full of surprises,” said the festival’s Artistic Director Gustavo Mozzi. “It attracts the most effervescent and interesting elements of the genre. It supports diversity across generations.”

“Each year it gets much bigger,” said dancer Silvana Nunez. “It is better organised and it is a pleasure to come. It is good for people to know that there is a Tango World Championship in Argentina.”

Internationally, tango is hugely popular. Tourists from across the world have descended on Buenos Aires to watch the best dancers battle it out.

The finals of the 2012 World Tango Championships will be held on August 28.
