Revered former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has celebrated his 86th birthday but in private. Last seen in public during Pope Benedict’s visit in March, there is concern over Castro’s state of health. In 2006 Castro ceded power to his younger brother Raul Castro after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery. Nonetheless children at Havana’s pioneer centre sang and danced for the elderly revolutionary and willingly cut into a giant birthday cake.
