Italian police say seizures of cash at airports and border checkpoints have soared this year.

More than 41 million euros was confiscated during the first seven months, a 78 per cent increase on the same period in 2011.

The haul is part of a crackdown on tax evasion.

Specially trained dogs have sniffed out cash stashed inside bags, napkins and even underwear.
