A Turkish soldier has been killed and at least 11 people injured after a military bus was attacked in the western province of Izmir.
It was targeted by explosives then gunfire according to reports with suspected Kurdish PKK militants blamed by many.
If confirmed as a PKK attack, the ambush would add to a recent upsurge in separatist violence. It would also widen Turkey’s conflict with the PKK beyond its regular field of operation in the mainly Kurdish southeast.
