US astronaut Sally Ride dies aged 61


America’s first woman to travel in space, Sally Ride has died from cancer. She was 61. It was in 1983 that Ride made her historic flight aboard space shuttle Challenger. For many she became a powerful role model and a household name. Once an aspiring tennis player, she went on to earn four university degrees including a doctorate in Physics.
