Teddy bears are pretty popular film characters. But don’t be misled, because this particular ‘Ted’ isn’t your average cuddly toy.
The stuffed bear hangs out with prostitutes, takes hits from a bong and humps a cash register – all activities that would be pretty foreign to tamer, more wholesome characters like Winnie the Pooh.
Ted is also John Bennett’s best friend, who is played by Mark Wahlberg. He described Ted’s character at the premiere: “Despite the fact that he’s got the most foul mouth you’ve ever seen and he’s a bad influence, he’s also got a heart that’s very sweet and very kind and also very funny.”
The plot device is that as the result of a childhood wish, John Bennett’s teddy bear, Ted, came to life and has been by John’s side ever since – a friendship that is tested when Lori, John’s girlfriend of four years, wants more from their relationship. Lori is played by Mila Kunis.
Mark Wahlberg also spoke about working on the film with Kunis: “She’s just great. We were in it together. We knew we were taking a risk, but we were all in it together. She’s worked with Seth (McFarlane, ‘Family Guy’ and ‘Ted’ creator) she has a lot of confidence in him. We worked together before and she’s just very easy to get along with. She’s smart, witty, very quick, but also easy going, which is a rare combination.”
‘Ted’ has been a box office success since the film was released earlier this summer. It’s opening all across Europe now.
