Public sector workers blocked traffic in Madrid as they protested against austerity measures planned by Spain’s government as it tries to cut the budget deficit.

Spain has seen a series of protests since prime minister Mariano Rajoy announced cuts on July 11. The government wants to make savings worth 65 billion euros over the next two and a half years.

Hundreds left their offices and took to the streets in a building that houses three ministries – employment, development and the environment.
