Five suspects have been arrested, after attacks in Russia’s Tatarstan region wounded a top Muslim leader and killed another.
Mufti Ildis Faizov was rushed to hospital after three powerful blasts hit his car on Thursday.
His deputy, Valiulla Yakupov, was shot dead outside his home.
The mostly Muslim Tatarstan region has previously been held up as a model of religious tolerance.
Investigators believe the attacks, which happened just hours before the holy month of Ramadan began, were provoked by faith and financial disputes.
President Vladimir Putin has promised that the culprits will be found and punished.
