Bulgarian investigators are still trying to establish the identity of a suicide bomber who killed five Israeli tourists and a bus driver.

However both Bulgaria and Sweden say the bomber is not former Guantanamo detainee, and Swedish citizen Mehdi Ghezali, as had been reported in Bulgarian media and elsewhere.

The only confirmed information is that the suspect was carrying a fake American drivers licence.

The attack happened at Burgas Airport on the Black Sea on Wednesday. Police believe they have identified the bomber from CCTV footage. It shows a man with bermudas, a back-pack and a satchel both in the airport lounge and near in the bus park.

They believe the man loaded the back-pack into the hold of a bus which he then boarded shortly before the explosion.

From the outset, Israel’s pointed the finger at Iran. President Shimon Perez told a press conference:
“This danger that comes from Iran, it’s not just a danger to Bulgaria, it’s not just a danger to Israel. It’s a danger to every place because they don’t have the slightest respect for human life, they don’t have the slightest respect for innocent people”.

More than 30 people were injured in the explosion, many suffering leg wounds, indicating an upward blast.

They had just landed in Bulgaria at the start of their holiday and the bus was supposed to transfer them to their resort. Many survivors have already been flown back to Israel by the government.
