A bus carrying Israeli tourists has exploded in eastern Bulgaria reportedly killing as many as seven people.
Local media suggest that more than twenty people were injured in the blast at Burgas airport.
An eyewitness told Israeli Army Radio that a suicide bomber had caused the explosion. Another told Israeli TV she saw someone get on the bus before the blast.
Israeli officials say passengers boarded the airport bus at Burgas on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast after arriving on a flight from Tel Aviv. The airport was closed and all flights were diverted to Varna.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been quick to blame Iran and has promised that his country will “respond forcefully”.
There have been several deadly attacks on Israeli tourists in recent years. Just last week Cyprus foiled a suspected Hezbollah attack on visitors from Israel.
Earlier this year, Bulgarian authorities were asked to step up security amid fears for the tourists’ safety.
