Ben Hur, it’s the ancient historical drama that was filmed in the legendary Cinecitta studios in Rome.
It’s just one of the many iconic films made at the legendary site. But its future hangs in the balance.
Private funders of this publicly funded property want to turn the studio site into an amusement park but Cinecitta workers oppose the plans.
Worker Fabrizio said: “If you see Cinecitta’s famous boulevards where the great directors like Fellini, Pasolini filmed, there is nothing, there is no culture left. Managers have not made investments and there is no ministerial body that controls the situation.”
Workers will continue to protest the proposals, which could see much of this areas movie history disappear.
