The Disney studios have complained at the unauthorised use of some of their most famous cartoon characters during a televised performance in North Korea.
State-run TV broadcast the show which was attended by North Korea’s new leader Kim Jong-un. Performers dressed as Minnie Mouse, Tigger and other characters were seen dancing against a backdrop of footage from Disney movies.
While the US is urging Pyongyang to respect intellectual property rights, no action is likely to be taken.
The show is a surprise departure for the isolated nation and analysts are wondering if the attempt to project an image of youth and modernity could lead to a general easing of restrictions on Western culture.
