Wiggins stuns Evans to extend Tour lead

Britain’s Bradley Wiggins produced yet another flawless run to clinch the 41.5km individual time trial from Arc-et-Senans to Besancon on Monday, a win which sees him extend his lead in the Tour de France.

On one of the warmest days so far in this Tour, the 32 year old crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 51 minutes and 24 seconds, edging out Team Sky team-mate Chris Froome by 35 seconds to secure his first ever stage victory in the event.

Australia’s Cadel Evans, who started the day in second place overall just 10 seconds behind Wiggins, had a disappointing day and wasn’t able to trouble the three-time Olympic track champion.

The BMC rider eventually had to settle for sixth place and this result sees him now trail the Briton by one minute and 53 seconds in the overall standings.
