Slovakia’s Peter Sagan timed his sprint perfectly to take a crash-ridden stage three of the Tour de France in Boulogne-sur-Mer on Tuesday.

The Liquigas rider once again demonstrated his supreme talent, edging out Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen by a few bike lengths for his second win on his debut Tour.

Omega Pharma-QuickStep’s Peter Velits produced a solid run but eventually had to settle for third place ahead of Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara who retained the yellow jersey for a fourth straight day. The 31 year old leads Bradley Wiggins of Britain in second and Sylvain Chavanel of France in third, both seven seconds off the pace.
