Following their emphatic victory in the Euro 2012 final, Spain’s victorious players arrived back at their Kiev hotel to a rapturous welcome.
Fans had stayed to see the team which has made history by winning successive European Championship titles:
“Very quickly the match started going well for us, things began to go our way,” said Spain’s coach Vincente del Bosque. “The Italian team made a big effort even when they were down to ten men. They tried to attack our goal, but they left lot of space behind them. Also it has to be taken into account that they had one less rest day before the final.”
A thrilled Cesc Fabregas said: “It is incredible, there are no words to express how we feel, and I hope that we keep winning because we are a very young team.”
“Now we are going to be expected to win every time, but that’s great…When people didn’t have confidence in us it was more difficult. But now we are relishing playing, and something to enjoy,” added midfielder Xavi Hernández.
