In a self-penned article for UK paper the Sunday Telegraph, British prime minister David Cameron has raised the prospect of a referendum on EU membership.
Cameron did not say when this vote might take place and has, in the past, resisted the idea.
Polls suggest, if given a chance, the UK electorate would opt out of the EU.
