Anti terror policed have arrested two suspected members of the armed Basque separatist group ETA in south western France.
One man has been identified as Ugaitz Errazquin Telleria The second man, is believed to be Jose Javier Oses Carrasco.
Telleria has been accused of belonging to an ETA cell, that assassinated a local Basque Spanish socialist politician and a businessman in 2008.
It is thought the men were trying to recruit new members, according to Spain’s Interior Ministry.
ETA has been weakened by the arrests of most of its leaders and by waning support in the Basque Country. Last October the group announced the end of its armed struggle, which lasted more than 40 years and claimed more than 800 lives.
However, the Spanish government has declined to negotiate a definitive end to the conflict, saying ETA must first disband.
