NATO’s Secretary general Anders Fogh Ramsussen has condemned the shooting down of the Turkish jet plane by Syrian forces.
Talking in Brussels, he said what he called “the spirit of solidarity” between the allied states, was still strong:
“We consider this act to be unacceptable and condemned it in the strongest terms, it is another example of the Syrian authorities disregard for international norms, peace and security and human life,” said Ramsussen.
Rasmussen also said his thoughts are with the air crew and hopes Syria will take steps to avoid similar events in the future.
Turkey remains resolute its aircraft was in international airspace. However, Syria claims the shooting was an act of self defence.
