More senior Syrian officers defect to Turkey

A Syrian general is among several senior army officers said to have defected along with their families into neighbouring Turkey.

An army colleague , Brigadier General Ahmad Berro who defected earlier this month has called on more of his fellow officers to defy the orders of the Syrian government:

“The Syrian army is tired after a year and four months. The army is ill-equipped and spread thinly across the country, with problems during summer and winter. They know that they are killing their sons, and no human can kill his son. The army is already destroyed physically and mentally.”

In the latest unverified footage said to be of Homs, rebels are continuing their fight.

One defector claimed the rebels were becoming more organised, with better arms. He said the Free Army is becoming more effective because its recruits are the Syrian people.
