NATO meeting on Turkey-Syria jet shooting set for Tuesday


NATO will discuss Syria’s shooting down of a Turkish jet on Tuesday, shining an even brighter spotlight on Damascus as the violence in Syria continues.

Turkey says its F-4 Phantom was brought down by Syria whilst in international airspace.

Damascus insists it engaged the aircraft whilst it was in Syrian airspace.

Meanwhile, the British-based Human Rights Observatory says at least 200 people have been killed in violence in Syria this weekend – including nearly 80 civilians.

Unverified amateur footage purports to show rebels in Talbiseh near Homs firing rockets at government forces.

Deir al-Zor in the east of the country has seen its second day of heavy bombardment as government forces shelled the city, killing 20 civilians, according to activists.
