The Gnaoua Music Festival in the Moroccan city of Essaouira is now underway.

The festival celebrates traditional Gnaoua music, a mixture of sub-Saharan African, Berber, and Sufi religious songs and rhythms. The music is both a prayer and a celebration of life and has influenced many famous musicians such as Jimmy Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and Bob Marley.
