Hurricane Carlotta has formed in the Pacific, gaining strength and hurtling towards Mexico’s southern coast.

The third named storm of the Pacific hurricane season, it has escalated into a “rapidly intensifying Category 2 hurricane,” the US National Hurricane Center reported.

The Mexican government has issued a hurricane warning from Punta Maldonado to Acapulco. Emergency shelters have opened and people are taking steps to protect their property.
