Greece’s jobless rate has soared to record figures. Data showed that 22.6 percent were out of work in the first quarter of 2012. That’s a rise from 20.7 percent in the previous three month period as economic activity slumped, the country’s statistic service announced.

It is the highest quarterly unemployment rate since figures were first published back in 1998. The jobless rate for the first quarter of 2011 was 15.9 percent.
