German fans celebrate win over the Netherlands

There were cheers and shouts of joy from jubilant German football fans, but misery and dejection from supporters of the Netherlands.

Germany’s 2:1 win in the European Championships against their long term rivals sparked a night of celebration – for some.

One German supporter was more relieved with his team’s performance in one of the competition’s toughest groups.

“Yes. Group of death. We’re going through, man. We’re in, we’re done. Netherlands, go home.”

Reporting for euronews from Kharkiv in Ukraine, Denys Kulyk said:

“After the battle between Germany and the Netherlands, the European vice-champions are in danger of leaving the tournament while Joachim Löw’s players have taken a major step towards qualifying for the knock out stage of Euro-2012.”
