It was party time in Kiev as supporters of Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine celebrated long into the night after their national side stunned a Swedish team by coming from behind and scoring a famous victory.
Not only that but Ukraine’s first ever Euro success has made them the surprise leaders of group D after England and France could only manage a one-all-draw.
One fan said,“We’ve been waiting for this for a long time.” His friend added, “And now we are in first place in the group!”
Another supporter was already looking to the next match: “We saw what happened between France and England today and we have to be ready! Because it’s going to be a tough fight.”
Reporting for euronews Denys Kulyk said:
“It’s 12.30 at night in Kiev, but the city does not sleep because only one hour ago the national team of Ukraine achieved its first historic victory in its debut game of Euro 2012. Oleg Blochin’s players have won 2:1 against Sweden.”
