Lightening fast finals at Judo Grand Slam

On the second day of the Judo Grand Slam in Rio the Men’s under 90 kg saw one of the shortest finals of the weekend. Varlam Liparteliani of Georgia launched a form of kata-guruma with no leg grab just a few seconds in, scoring Ippon against his Argentine opponent Hector Campos.

This result adds to his victories at the European Championship in April, as well as at the Judo Grand Prix, Düsseldorf 2012 earlier this year.

In the women’s under 78 kg’s 2010 World Champion, Kayla Harrison, was relentless against her Brazilian Opponent Samanta Soares. The American had billed it as the last test before the Olympic games to her fans on facebook and won in Style.

She launched her first major attack 25 seconds in, an uchi-mata, putting her up on points with waza-ari. Totally controlling her opponent she scored again with the same technique for the ippon.
