New forced marriage law for UK


A law making forced marriage a criminal offence is to be introduced in England and Wales. A pilot scheme began in Scotland in November.

Prime Minister David Cameron’s described forced marriages as “little more than slavery”. Around half the 6,000 or so cases identified in the UK every year concern the Pakistani community with victims last year ranging in age from five to 87 years old.
