Russia got their Euro 2012 Group B campaign off to a blistering start courtesy of a 4-1 drubbing of the Czech Republic in Wroklaw, Poland on Friday.
Chelsea shotstopper Peter Czech could do little but watch as Alan Dzagoev became the first player of the tournament to strike a double one either side of half time.
Roman Shirokov and Roman Pavlyuchenko were also on target to complete the rout for Dick Advocaat’s side.
Václav Pilař saved some face for the Czechs on 52 minutes.
Russia’s 4-1 triumph has put them at the top of Group A and in the early pole position to qualify for the knock out stage – Poland and Greece follow on one point while the Czechs bring up the rear.
