Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has told parliament that the country is facing an international onslaught, with a war being waged from the outside.

He once again denied that government forces are responsible for killings in Syria.

Assad said terrorism was escalating in the country, despite political reforms being put in place.

The President has made few public appearances during a 15-month uprising against his rule.

The United Nations says Syrian forces have killed more than 9,000 people in a crackdown on protests against Assad.
