Gay rights rally dispersed in Russian capital

Police have dispersed a gay rights rally in Moscow, after activists attempted to stage an unsanctioned protest.

The demonstrators gathered to voice their opposition to new legislation which bans what is described as “spreading gay propaganda among minors.”

Protesters claim it restricts freedom of expression and says it is further evidence of growing homophobia in Russia.

Several orthodox activists held a separate rally nearby, calling on the police to arrest the gay rights campaigners.
