On home ground and hoping for a fifth triumph in Europe’s premier Cup competition, Bayern Munich fans have been parading through the city centre since early morning.
It will be a bright end for their supporters if the team defeats Chelsea. Bayern Munich’s domestic season has been miserable and trophy-less. The fans are in positive mood.
“We are so happy to be here,” said one, another delighted his side will be playing at home, “The final is in Munich, which is just awesome. We do not have tickets, but we will just go to watch the game on the big screen at the Olympic Stadium!”
Not everyone in Bavaria is backing the local team. One politician has incensed her party colleagues declaring she will not be watching as she hates Bayern Munich. Deep passions have been stirred.
“This is just great, the only thing missing now is the Cup and then we will celebrate all night long,” remarked one fan.
Our correspondent, Sebastian Saam spent the morning with some of Bayern’s supporters.
“For Bayern, it is a much hoped for final at home, “ he reports. “Thousands of fans are already besieging the city centre and we will see tonight if it really is an advantage, to play a Champions League final at home.”
