Away from all of the economic and political turmoil, Greece is preparing to hand over the Olympic flame to Britain – the host of this year’s Games.
It has been taken on a relay across the country since being lit in Olympia last week. The flame will be passed to British officials during a ceremony in Athens on Thursday night.
After being flown to the UK, 8,000 torch bearers will take it on a 70-day relay covering nearly 13,000 kilometres. It all culminates with a cauldron being lit at London’s Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony in July.
