As Cannes Film Festival kicked off controversy was already buzzing about the complete absence of any female directors in the main competition.
The festival was opened by a screening of Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, staring Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Edward Norton and Harvey Keitel.
Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward play a pair of 12 year old runaways who are far more in control of their lives than the adults who are searching for them.
The film bears many of Wes Anderson’s hallmarks, from the bright yellow motif that appears in almost every shot, through the tightly controlled camera movements to the largely familiar cast.
