Rio Ferdinand out of Euro 2012

Manchester united defender Rio Ferdinand was the highest-profile casualty on Wednesday as England boss Roy Hodgson unveiled his squad for Euro 2012.

John Terry was selected despite the July court case awaiting him regarding allegations that he racially abused Ferdinand’s brother Anton during Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Queens Park Rangers last October.

Hodgson told journalists Ferdinand’s omission was made “purely” on footballing grounds and also confirmed Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard would captain England.

The European championships get underway in Warsaw on the 8th of June.
