The members of the new French cabinet have been named.

Appointments include Laurent Fabius taking up the position of foreign minister. He is the oldest and and most experienced in the new government. He has held ministerial ministerial office before and shares Francois Hollande’s vision of making French diplomacy more independent of the United States.

The brief for the interior has been handed to Manuel Valls.

The cabinet will hold its first meeting on Thursday afternoon and Pierre Moscovice will be in charge of finance.

The budget will be under the guidance of Jerome Cahuzac while the Europe portofilio will be in the hands of Bernard Cazoneuve.

Martine Aubry, the Socialist Party first secretary, is not in the new government.
