More than 2,000 people gathered in Kiev on Saturday to protest against Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.
Opposition parties held the unified rally to unveil a plan of action for October’s parliamentary elections and demonstrat against the jailing of former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
Her daughter Eugenia addressed the crowd. Reading a statement on behalf of the ex-PM, she said political squabbles must be left behind.
“Our sacred duty is to free Ukraine from this cruel and criminal occupation,” she said.
Tymoshenko believes her seven-year prison sentence over a gas deal with Russia she signed in office is no more than a political chirade, orchestrated by her bitter rival Yanukovich.
