Video footage of police beating a mentally-ill, homeless man has been shown to a courtroom in Orange County, California.
The grainy black and white images show shirtless Kelly Thomas being hit again and again with fists, a baton and the butt of a stun gun.
The court is trying to decide whether two officers should stand trial for killing Thomas, 37, who died five days after the beating in July 2011.
Defence lawyers say there is not enough proof their clients were directly responsible for his death.
