The outgoing cabinet of Nicolas Sarkozy has met for the final time in Paris. As ministers left the Elysee Palace, they said their leader had told them not to be bitter or sad.
Sarkozy is handing over the French presidency to socialist Francois Hollande, after losing last weekend’s election run-off.
“I expressed my gratitude and especially my pride to serve France under his authority during the past five years,” said outgoing Prime Minister Francois Fillon.
Many of the cabinet ministers are now facing election campaigns of their own. Parliamentary polls are set to take place in France next month.
Nadine Morano, who has been the Family Affairs Minister, showed the media a card signed by Sarkozy as she left the palace. Inside, a message read “with my affection.”
