The president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, has been meeting with France’s new president.

Francois Hollande, who swept to victory with an anti-austerity campaign, has lots to get off his chest when it comes to tackling the EU over its debt-busting policies. Hollande believes cost-cutting is stifling growth.

On Thursday, Hollande will meet Jean-Claude Juncker, who chairs the meetings of eurozone finance ministers.
